One of my favorite celebrity judges told a story about him and his wife debating about whether or not to still have their wedding in New York City in the terrible days after 9/11. After much anguish, he and his wife decided to heed their rabbi's advice and not delay joy.

In much the same way, God is telling us not to delay joy in the third commandment where it states: Remember to keep holy the LORD’s Day. For six days the Israelites were supposed to work but, on the Sabbath, they were supposed to rest. No matter when your Sabbath falls, we are commanded to rest and not delay joy.

So, on your Sabbath after you hang out with our Heavenly Father do not delay joy.

Sing off-key.

Dance crazily in the kitchen.

Share a meal with friends or family.

Paint/Write/Sculpt/Garden with wild abandon.

Sleep the afternoon away.

In utter peace. Knowing that your Heavenly Father is delighted in you obeying him and that you are not wasting away God’s gift to you. That you are in fact obeying him to the utmost.
