And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore, I would rather boast about my weakness, that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Weakness is not sin. Weakness is the resting place that God's Power (Grace) wants to establish itself upon, within our lives. Don't think the enemy doesn't pay any attention to that relationship between our weakness and God's rightful resting place upon that weakness. Sin also desires that same position, resting in our weakness. The enemy does everything he can to move sin into that weakness before we offer it up to the Lord. If he can get our weakness, God won't be able to establish His strengths, anointing, and desires where they should be - perfect in weakness.
If we open our weaknesses to sin rather than our King, we have robbed Him of His rightful resting place in our lives. Christ wants our need, our shortcomings, our inabilities. If we give Christ our unbelief He gives us truth in return. Truth that builds our faith in the Kingdom.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of HIS might.
When we give sin our weakness it takes our unbelief and feeds it logical self-serving reasoning that leads us to self-dependence (pride) rather than selfless dependence on Him.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
Weakness is a limitation of humanity. It is defined as the state or condition of lacking strength. A quality regarded as a disadvantage. It is also defined as a person or thing that one is unable to resist or likes excessively.
So when someone says, "wine is my weakness," or "sweets are my weakness," that is not quite right. See, you and I know what they mean, but what the real weakness is here is that they are having a difficult time denying their urges. Their weakness is the need for a reward, a treat, or maybe indulging in the glass of wine makes something that hurts feel a little better for a moment. If you meet a need, a weakness, with something other than God, you have replaced Him in that weakness where He should be.
Please don't misunderstand what I mean here. If you were just going to indulge in a dessert and you and the Lord are joyful about that experience, then enjoy it! He loves to bless us! But if a limitation or weakness is driving us to something to fill our longing or hurt, then allow it to drive you to our King of grace! How much better does Christ look seated on your loneliness instead of the man or woman that doesn't appreciate you? Christ appreciates you; He created you. Christ knows your need and He wants to be the one who fills it because He knows nothing else will ever satisfy His creation. He made you that way to be His receptacle, to receive grace into your weakness. Now as you shift Jesus (God's grace to man) into the resting place of your need, you don't need a companion to make you feel complete. All of a sudden you don't need the next high to unwind from a tough day at work. The fight with your kids doesn't cost you your peace and happiness. You're not ready to jump to the next job because you're concerned about the rate at which you are climbing the corporate ladder, or maybe worried if you're going to even have a job in the months to come.
See, all those things we invite into our weakness to soothe our feelings that are full of anxiety and fear - those are our solution to the weakness. When we choose our solution over the truth Christ has already proclaimed for us, we choose our way over His. This was the fall in the garden. We have more hope in what we can do for ourselves rather than what God can do in our weakness. Selfish pride gives in and sin takes the rightful place of God in our weakness; thereby, the rightful place of joy, peace, hope, love, and grace.
Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Jesus replaces our loneliness with fellowship. He replaces our disappointment with hope. Our pain is treated with comfort from the Great Comforter. He gives us energy where we are weary. He turns financial woes into testimonies of blessings. Jesus exchanges that sin that shouldn't be established on our weakness for the blood that was required to remove it. He gives us grace.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 gives us this powerful reminder: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord."

What a timely word for me Nathaniel. Thank You!
Thank you, this is so good. Thank You Lord that when I am weak, You are strong. I lean into You to be the strength of my heart. I will boast in You Lord.
